Layout Design#

In this lesson we go through the basics of layout design. UI design shares in knowledge from visual design disciplines and this task is intended to explore (and challenge) conventional design approaches.

• Reading: Designing interfaces, Tidwell, pg. 209-220. ­The Basics of Layout. Provided on Moodle in Week 5 resources.

Task#

• Read through the provided chapter above. The section on The Basics of Layout should be your focus though the complete chapter is very useful and worth the read. Observe the importance of visual hierarchy and gestalt principles in UI design.
• Design a 1 screen interface for a social media app where all 4 gestalt principles are demonstrated.
• Marking areas on your design, explain briefly how the 4 gestalt principles are represented in your design.
